Advanced Placement (A.P.) Studio Art
Prerequisites: Art IV first semester and teacher approval
This is an advanced course for serious art students who are considering pursuing art after high school. Students will develop a portfolio of at least 24 works of art. The portfolio includes works that show quality craftsmanship, a variety of concepts and a personal study. Students choose either a Drawing portfolio, a 2-D Design portfolio or a 3-D Design portfolio. Each student will choose their own personal study based on their own interests and mediums. Students are expected to have the ability to work independantly and the ability to produce work outside of class time. Students are required to maintain an online portfolio of their work and present influential artists to the class in an online school blog community.

Art 4 Honors
Prerequisite: Art III (2D or 3D) and teacher approval
This is an advanced level course designed for students with a serious interest in the arts. This class emphasizes personal voice and expression in student artwork as well as technique. Student may take this class as the first half of AP Art or may take it on its own, although taking it as part of AP Art is encouraged.

Art 3 3D Design
Prerequisite: Art II and teacher approval
A comprehensive exploration of the elements and principles as they relate to sculptural tools, techniques, and design problems.
Problems may include ceramics, sculpture, fiber arts, paper mache, carving, jewelry & metals, bookmaking, and recycled sculpture. Students investigate different materials and concepts that relate to creating engaging forms in space. Students learn how to use small power tools safely and appropriately. Students are expected to provide materials related to their own personal expressions.

Problems may include advanced studies in printmaking, painting, drawing, collage, and ink techniques. Students will investigate how different materials and ideas can work together on a flat surface. Students may be expected to provide certain materials needed for individualized projects.

Art 2
Prerequisites: Passed Art 1 with a grade of B or better or teacher approval
This class builds upon the basic skills learned in Art 1. The student will continue to explore a variety of materials and processes while applying their knowledge of the elements and principles of design. Students will explore different means of personal expression as well as influential artists.

The elements of art will be explored in the context of popular movements and highly influential artists. Students are required to maintain a sketchbook that includes journal writings, preliminary work and illustrated responses to weekly instructor prompts.
